THE Goulburn Bears Division One State League Women’s team was in Sydney over the weekend, competing in a triple-header round of games at the Minto Basketball Stadium, located in Sydney’s south-west.

Due to the immense distances between teams in this year’s competition, ranging from Wagga Wagga in the south to Coffs Harbour in the north, NSW Basketball has scheduled a number of triple-header rounds at central venues.
The Bears relished meeting the bottom-ranked Inner West Bulls in their opening game of the weekend, dominating throughout for a 63-49 win.
Naomi Lucas led the Bears with 14 points, ahead of Georgia Noack 13 and Carissa Moroney 10.
Their second game on Saturday saw the Bears face up to the competition-leading Maitland Mustangs and with their confidence boosted by the earlier win, the Bears led 25-22 at the first break.
The competition’s front-runners soon however ran into top gear, grabbing the lead before the half -time break and eventually winning 79-55.
Moroney led the Bears with 15 points, ahead of Jordan Huntley 11.
Sunday morning’s clash promised another tough encounter, with the Bears facing up to the fourth-placed Coffs Harbour Suns.
The Bears could not replicate their earlier strong performances, trailing the Suns all game before falling 79-49.
Noack led the Bears with 13 points, ahead of Lucas 9.
The Women’s competition is now in recess until Round Ten on May 14, although the Bears have an additional break and resume in Round Eleven on May 21.
That will be another tough contest, with the Bears hosting the third-placed Shoalhaven Tigers.
