Owie Davis
At the match on Saturday players wore black armbands and a minute’s silence was observed to honour Owie Davis who passed away in the previous week. Owie Davis was a front row forward for the original Gunning Roos and was part of the Grand Final win in the 1980s.

At a huge funeral on Wednesday, Owie was remembered together with his family after a very sudden illness took him from us.

Vietnam Veterans Day
Thursday, August 18 marked the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan during which 108 Australian and New Zealand members of D company 6 RAR fought during torrential rain against over 2000 Viet Cong soldiers eventually defeating them. Eighteen were killed and 24 wounded while 245 VC bodies were found later together with evidence that many more had been killed.
To those in this community, of the 60,000 that served in this conflict together with your families, we honour your service and sacrifice including that of Barry Thompson, whose name is inscribed on the Gunning Cenotaph. The flag was raised on the day at Gunning.
No motocross
The appeal against Council about the Development Application for the Motocross Facility on Lade Vale Road had been dismissed by the Land and Environment Court as neither suitable for the rural site nor in the public interest.
While there is relief from those opposed to the facility, there will be disappointment from others. Perhaps this disappointment could be turned to positive advantage by joining with the Gunning Golf Club members who are keen to expand that facility to encompass community and family activities. The club’s next working bee is on Saturday from 10am.
