The match started with the Roos’ forwards – led by Jamie Apps, Josh Solomons and Aron Chatfield – marching downfield towards the Devils’ line. Roos five-eighth Charlie Valeni was first to cross the line and Mat Freeman kicked the conversion.
Some good pressure from the Devils in the next set allowed Crookwell to equalise. Soon Valeni crossed for his second try, but the conversion was off. The Roos’ outside backs started finding space that led to Valeni’s third try, and a Freeman conversion: 16-6.
Just before half time, the Devils crossed the line near the corner. Fifteen minutes into the second half Josh Solomons made a long run down the sideline and was tackled 10m out. A quick play-the-ball had Valeni sliding again followed by a Freeman conversion: 22-10.
The Roos’ final try came from Trent Brown.
