The Goulburn West Public School student took up kart-racing only a year ago to hone his race-craft skills for bike racing.
His father, Con Toparis, said he was immensely proud of his son, who decided he would like to try his skills at kart-racing after having a go on an indoor track.
“In round two at Newcastle, before the Manning Valley championship, Costa dominated in the wet,” Mr Toparis said.
"He drove a smooth race line and did his best to stay away from trouble. The machines are essentially all the same – weight, engine size, tyres and even exhaust – so winning is down to driver skill.”
In the September 9 finals, Costa won all three heats and the 32-lap final, giving him a 41-point lead over his nearest rival, Jett Cotter.
Costa said going to race meetings with his father was special, and “I've made some good racing friends, too.”
