Jackson Fever infected the students of Marulan Public on Tuesday, September 20. Each class took part in creating, choreographing and performing its own Michael Jackson song, all linked by a script written by Year 6 students Tayshawn Sowter and Riley Cox-Barlow with the help of Penelope Jago.

The songs included ABC, Rockin’ Robin, Bad, Beat It, Smooth Criminal, Want You Back, Thriller, Someone in the Dark and Blame it on the Boogie.
The play was about an evil headmaster and his gang trying to be rid of all the cheerful little monsters and turn the school, Monster High, into a place of sorrow and misery. His scheme didn’t quite go to plan. Truly, it was a magical performance.
The next meeting of the school’s Parents & Citizens will be held Tuesday, October 11, 5.30pm at the Charisma Chinese Restaurant; and if you are free on Wednesday, September 28, get along to the school and join in the painting and gardening bee.
Hotel tour
Maureen Eddy, Sue Montgomery and Caroline Hale have offered to organise a tour of district hotels (Crookwell, Taralga and Marulan) on Sunday, October 9. Morning tea will be in Marulan prior to leaving; lunch, in Crookwell; then home via Taralga. The ‘pub tour’ will visit five established hotels and quite a number of sites that have a story to tell. One such former hotel, from 1832, is now called Wandi but was known as Shelley’s Flats. Call Caroline, 0412 477 021, or Maureen, 4841 1515.
Carrick
Maureen has also decided we need to ‘do’ Carrick as all the other district villages have had their history recorded in book form. Carrick’s school was opened provisionally in 1873 and closed in 1907. Carrick’s railway station was called Towrang when it opened in 1869, but the name was transferred to Mannerfield and the Scottish name Carrick then chosen. With the opening of double railway lines in 1914, Carrick station was moved to its former site and two platforms built. It is thought the station signs etc were demolished circa 1970s, but those living in the area may recall the exact date. Call: Maureen, 4841 1515.
Vale, Carol
Most people in the area knew who you were talking about when you said ‘little Carol’, as Carol Knudsen was small in stature and an unassuming person who loved family and friends.
We reminisced about when she, Marie Pender and I did an extended tour of Europe. Capri was her favourite place (I concurred). We joked about how, in Lucerne, Marie and I had ‘squibbed’ going up the mountain, but three young Germans took her under their wing and she had a wonderful time.
Carol is survived by her four children, Ann, Stephen, Douglas and Dianne and their families. She was proud of them all. They and we will miss her very much.
Vale, Juliana
I first met Joseph and Juliana Pellzman when Lorna Parr was compiling the Marulan Harmony book. They made us welcome to their home and said things had been hard in Salzburg post-WWII. They decided to migrate to Australia as they had two small boys, Joseph and Godfrey, and wanted a better life for them.
Juliana needed a wheelchair for mobility from 1988, but enjoyed life in the country and both worked hard to make their Marulan farm a quiet peaceful home. They also enjoyed the company of others at events such as Harmony Day and the Lions’ Christmas party.
Joseph died some time ago and with the passing of Juliana, we send our sympathies to their sons and families as it was a pleasure to have known them.
Historical meeting
The next meeting of Marulan Historical Society is at the Uniting Church Hall on the second Thursday monthly (October 13) at 1pm. The Society still meets each Monday morning at 10am to catalogue and organise their artifacts. Everyone welcome.
Dinner dance
A Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday, October 29 at the Marulan Memorial Hall. Proceeds will go to the Marulan Kite Festival, which is refurbishing the hall and improving Tony Onions Park. A gourmet dinner, great dance band, novelty auction and more: bookings, call 0408 421 100.
