A field of about 140 of the State’s best amateur golfers will be in town on October 29 and 30 to compete in the 36-hole Country Championship and the Inter-District Teams Championship.
The winner will be invited to compete in the 2016 NSW Open at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club, beginning on November 1.
Graeme Phillipson of Golf NSW is thrilled to see the event being hosted in Australia’s first inland city.
“We are proud to hold the Men’s Country Championships in a regional centre as historic as Goulburn, and on one of the State’s finest inland golf courses too,” Mr Phillipson said.
“Players from as far away as the Far North Coast and the Western Riverina will be vying for the title this year.
“The chance for the winner to get a start in the NSW Open a fortnight later is a massive incentive.”
The Country Championship honour roll includes Nathan Green, Paul Sheehan, Scott Gardiner and 15-time Japanese tour winner, Brendan Jones. Goulburn’s Bruce Devlin won the Country Championship title twice.
Defending champion Dylan Perry of the Hunter Valley’s Vintage Golf Club is looking forward to the event. ”I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Goulburn course,” Perry said.
