The community consultative committee also remains confused about the facility’s future.
A Southern NSW Local Health District release on Thursday stated that Bourke Street’s relocation would be “re-evaluated,” with more time given from the government to “further review the timeline and processes.”
Meantime, Goulburn MP Pru Goward’s statement, titled ‘Bourke Street Health Service stays open,’ welcomed the LHD’s decision and described the announcement as a “great win for the community”. She cited the need to explore issues surrounding parking, community donations and patient transfer.
But Community consultative committee chair Jason Shepherd says Ms Goward’s media release didn’t correlate with the LHD’s.
“The LHD doesn't say they're keeping Bourke Street open, it says they're going to re-evaluate it,” Mr Shepherd said.
“They’re trying to diffuse the community’s anger and resolve and I fear people will buy into this.”
NSW Nurses and Midwives secretary Jane Cotter says the rally on Sunday will go ahead due to the lack of clarity surrounding Bourke Street’s closure.
“It’s quite a long media release that doesn’t say anything concrete,” she said
“If Ms Goward knows more that’s good, but we’re going to have the rally because we don’t know.”
Union organisers have confirmed the rally at Belmore Park this Sunday at 11am will still go on. A Palliative Care and Oncology fundraiser will be held at the Goulburn and District Racing Club the same day.
