There has been a lot of misinformation in the community about the upgrade for the Goulburn Base Hospital and what it will mean for local families.

I want the community to know the facts and to keep everyone informed.
- $120 million is committed to upgrade the Goulburn Base Hospital.
- This is public money, funded by the State Government.
- The $120 million upgrade will give us new wards, new operating theatres and a new Emergency Department
- Oncology and palliative care to be relocated to the main site.
- Nursing and hospital staff jobs will be retained.
Expressions of Interest (EOI) were called for to see if we could get an even better deal for Goulburn, but no adequate private or not-for-profit providers responded to the EOI.
The Goulburn Base Hospital will be 100 per cent owned by the State Government and your public health services are guaranteed.
This upgrade is a great opportunity for Goulburn and our families. There will also be opportunities for local contractors and tradespeople to work on the upgrade, creating extra employment and business growth for Goulburn.
Readers may have also heard that because we will have a dedicated oncology and palliative care facility at the new Goulburn Base Hospital that the Bourke Street Health Service will close. This will only happen once the new facility opens its doors; the Bourke Street Health Service will remain open until the new hospital is built.
I am sure we can all agree on the outstanding quality of nursing and hospital staff and the incredible support the Bourke Street Health Service provides our friends and family members.
We’re very lucky to have this support in our community and I look forward to working with all residents to make Goulburn an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

Hit the nail on the head
Once again, in the Post of Monday, November 14, Ray Williams has hit the nail squarely on the head. Few would disagree with him, I think; veyr much worth attention by all. Let’s keep up the pressure regarding our hospitals, and teaching in the gaol.

Blood worth bottling
We’re all busy around this time of year – especially certain sleigh drivers – [but] Australia’s patients still need you. But, as you may know, Christmas and New Year can be a difficult time for blood supplies.
That’s because even though regular donors are away and can’t donate, the need for blood doesn’t take a holiday. Australia needs [communities] to unite and help patients at this special time.
If you can, please book in for [a] festive season donation between December 23 and January 2. Every blood donation counts! Book individually by calling 13 14 95 or going online.

Support the Salvos
Goulburn residents are invited to help spread Christmas joy this year to those doing it tough by supporting their local Salvation Army at Bunnings Warehouse Goulburn.
With 100,000 Australians expected to turn to The Salvos for help this Christmas, Goulburn locals are encouraged to assist the organisation that gives much needed support and hope to people in need.
During November and December, The Salvos will be visiting Bunnings at Ducks Lane to raise much-needed funds through tin shaking and festive cheer with carolling and band performances.
