The Harness Racing NSW steward is recovering in hospital from injuries sustained in the fall while on duty at Goulburn’s harness racing meet on January 29.
The injured steward was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital. Later tests ruled out any need for surgery. Goulburn Harness Racing Club secretary Mark Croatto said on Friday the steward was still in hospital, “...pretty sore still and is likely to remain so for some time”.
Safe Work NSW is investigating the incident. The Post understands the floor was made of 18 millimetre concrete fibre. It was not known why the floor gave way. “It was a complete shock. We are awaiting the report into the incident and recommendations of the investigators,” Mr Croatto said.
Harness Racing NSW has instructed clubs across the state to immediately engage qualified people to issue compliance certificates for their track structures.
An earlier version of this story identified the steward, whose name has been removed by family request.
