Goulburn Mulwaree Council is appealing for information after rescuing a puppy from a park bin in Goulburn late last week.
Last Friday morning, rangers were called to inspect a bin in the park on the corner of Lagoon and Cole Streets, where they located a puppy, which had been dumped.
Council’s Ranger Services Coordinator Jemma Reid received the call and attended with Ranger Anna Keatley.
They located a small black puppy lying on the rubbish in the bin and identified him as a male mixed breed.
Thankfully he was showing no heat stress or health issues, except for being infested with fleas.
“It was very confronting to find the puppy in the bin – it’s an awful thing for someone to do – but this story has the potential for a great ending. ‘Lucky’ is recovering well and we are hoping to find a nice family and new home for him” Mrs Reid said.
The puppy was given food and water and taken to Clinton Street Vet Clinic where he was checked, treated for fleas and vaccinated. He was found to be a little underweight but not suffering from any serious issues.
The pup has now been affectionately renamed ‘Lucky’ by the Ranger team for the time being, and after a weekend to recover he is doing well.
The dog is now being cared for by the Companion Animal Facility and is now fit and ready to be re-homed.
Anyone with information in relation to the incident is encouraged to contact the RSPCA on 9770 7555. If you are interested in re-homing Lucky, please contact the Companion Animal Facility on 4823 4409.
