It is now the masters riders turn to see how they compare on the national track stage.
Goulburn Cycle Club members Paul Parlett and Brian Rawlinson, who both competed at the NSW Championships, with Parlett winning gold in his time trial.
Also heading to the Bass Hill Dunc Gray Veledrome will be Dulwich Hill Cycle Club life member and Goulburn resident Des Kidd, 81, who is looking for his ninth national title as a masters 10 rider.
Rawlinson is a sprint specialist and mostly rides track rather than racing on the road courses. He will be competing in the Masters three age division .
He has been riding for nine years and got into it through his children. He lives nearby the Goulburn track and got hooked on riding initially to support his eldest who no longer competes.
He fairly regularly competes in Sydney but also travels to Bowral, Wagga Wagga and the Illawarra. At the NSW Championships recently he went under 12 seconds on his 200m sprint.
Paul Parlett is a relative newcomer to track riding having taken up initially road cycling for fitness three years ago and then track two years ago.
He rides in the Masters two division for riders 35-40 years.
While Rawlinson will only be attending the nationals for the sprint championships Parlett will be there for four days competing in a wide ranging program from March 8-12.
“Brian and other club members helped me prepare for the State Championships,” Parlett said. “It was their advise and support that helped me achieve the gold.”
While Des Kidd is not a Goulburn Cycle Club member he regularly rides at their meetings and is looking forward to another national championship.
“I am not a team rider but like to do things on my own,” Kidd said.
“I am more of a sprinter but no where near as quick as the younger riders now.”
