A collection of privately owned historic commercial vehicles will head out of Sydney to Yass via the Old Hume Highway.
This event has become the largest road rally of its type in Australia and is known among trucking enthusiasts worldwide.
It is an amazing event that is visually spectacular and sees the roads lined with people waving them on along this nostalgic piece of transport history.
Capped at 300 vehicles, the restored trucks and buses will depart from Hawkesbury Showground at Clarendon early morning and begin their trip along The Northern Road.
They will take in Luddenham, Bringelly and Narellan before turning onto the old ‘Highway 31’.
There they’ll proceed to pass thorugh Picton, Bargo, Yerrinbool, Mittagong and Berrima with the first scheduled stop being in Goulburn.
Here the entrants will lunch at the Goulburn Recreation Area on Braidwood Road.
The vehicles will be displayed for a few hours to allow the general public an opportunity to get up close and see just how it used to be done.
By early afternoon, the engines will once again fire up and they will hit the road to continue their journey through Breadalbane, Gunning and finally into Yass.
In total they will cover a distance of 290 kilometres as they go back to a simpler time and pay homage to the pioneers of road transport and respect some of the legends of the industry, especially the ones who never made it home.
The weekend will finish with a closed event in Yass where money will be raised to help support the efforts of ASPECT – Autism Spectrum Australia.
The past three Haulin’ the Hume events have seen close to $60,000 donated to help children with autism, with some of the funds being directed to both the Goulburn and Yass districts.
Enthusiasts are invited to see the trucks at either Clarendon (5am until about 8am) or Goulburn (10am until 2pm) or simply take up a position somewhere along the route where they can sit back and reminisce at days gone by.
