Complete with a slide presentation, Bill started with the Penultimate Plan of Goulburn followed by an early view of Auburn Street complete with an early street parade.
We then moved forward to look at original local buildings aligned with Goulburn’s history.
Bill accompanied the original buildings with a more modern building which, as of 2016, stands on the site of the original one.
A brief overview of some of these buildings sourced are:
- second Post Office
- Mandelson’s Hotel
- Carrier Arms Hotel
- Roman Catholic Church of St Peter and Paul
- Bank of NSW (1862, 1865)
- second Grammar School (Bourke Street)
- Bank of Australasia
- Commercial Bank of Sydney (Della & Associates)
- Union Bank (Coolavin Hotel)
- Medical Hall (Goulburn Club)
- Argyle Steam Flour Mill
- Goulburn’s original Parish Church (St Saviour’s)
- Ardgowan
- Musgraves Saddlers
- The Salutation Hotel (Dimmeys)
- Islington House (Hollis Building)
- Commercial Hotel (Goulburn Hotel/Goulburn Soldiers Club)
- Lanes (Knowlmans)
- Royal Hotel (Goulburn Workers Club)
- Slocombe’s Butchery (Astor Units)
- William Bradley’s Town House (Tatts Hotel)
- Mechanics Institute
- Owen Furner & Sons (Beauty Store)
- Hayes Flour Mill
- Sheekey’s Soft Drink Factory
- Marcus Clark & Co (BBQs Galore)

Bill also has a two-hour presentation prepared that he can take into your home to present to you and a group of friends or just small groups who are interested.
What a great way for those who are interested in Goulburn’s history or new to the town to spend a morning, afternoon or evening.
A great speaker and presentation for a Club to have at a meeting. For more information, call Bill on 4821 4535.
At the end of his presentation, Bill answered questions from members and guests and was presented with a gift in appreciation by Joan Scott.
May Social Day
For our May Social Day we wish all who are boarding the Riverboat Postman as intrepid ‘first time posties’; a great day on the Hawkesbury River.
Let’s hope you have calm waters and enjoy your time on the mail run.
June news
Invitations received for June are from Weston Creek VIEW, who celebrate their 45th anniversary on June 6, and Yass Day who have their 38th anniversary on June 13.
If you would like to help these clubs celebrate their anniversaries, please let Margaret know.
40 years
Remember and share: Goulburn Day VIEW Club will celebrate 40 years this September.
Can any of you help take us on a trip down memory lane?
If so please let the committee know so we can organise for these memories and events to be mentioned on our anniversary.
We look forward to having some great times re-told.
Any photos or news clippings would help as well.
There is the possibility of a book so let us know if you have anything that you can contribute towards this.
