When NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro was in Goulburn recently to transfer the Goulburn Regional Conservatorium back to the community, he said he was “well-aware of the business case” that Goulburn had previously presented for the proposed Goulburn to Crookwell Rail Trail. 

“I am aware the business case from Goulburn has been done,” Mr Barilaro said.

“This one still has a lot of affected landowners and we need engagement up front on these projects. That said, there is $300 million in the Regional Growth Fund that can be applied for – for such projects.” 

He spoke briefly about the Tumbarumba and Rosewood Pilot Rail Trail and acknowledged such projects are good for boosting regional tourism. 

“They drive tourism. You only need to look at places like New Zealand to see that,” he said. 

Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk said he was optimistic about the project.

“We re-lodged the Expression of Interest for funding in the Regional Growth Fund,” Cr Kirk said. 

“It is not all for rail trails but we are waiting to go into the next round with a full application for consideration.

“We want to pursue these opportunities. They won’t happen without the State Government’s support.”
