Proud of her indigenous heritage as a woman of the Wonnarua people (Hunter Valley - Australia), she has embraced a global musical culture and spends her time going between Nashville and Tamworth.
She grew up listening to country stars and her vocal delivery is considered to be sitting somewhere between Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, which is something that Akers is proud of.
“This is a massive compliment,” Akers said.
“Growing up as a fan of these iconic artists, I have long dreamed of being mentioned in the same breath – but they are huge shoes to fill.”
Music is in her blood, having performed in public for the first time at the age of three.
She recorded her first EP at the age of 16 and funded it with money she made busking tirelessly on the streets of Tamworth.
She graduated from the CMAA Academy of Country Music (2004 and 2005) and then the Talent Development Project (2006).
From this solid grounding, she blossomed into an elite performer, taking out the Telstra Road To Discovery (2006), Toyota Star Maker (2007) and a Golden Guitar (2008).
Winning these awards opened up new horizons in Nashville and the USA.
In 2010, she moved to Nashville and her 2011 album Naked received three Golden Guitar finalist nominations.
In 2016, she released the album Burn Baby Burn, which featured Kirsty’s first ever ARIA number one Australian Country Album and so far it has produced a total of four number one singles including When I Miss You Most.
The second single Burn Baby Burn has been selected as CMC ‘Country Pick’.
She is currently on her Nashville To The Top End tour, from June 2017 to June 2018.
She is playing at venues Australia Wide and then to Canada for Canadian Country Music Week and to Nashville for Americana Fest.
Kirsty Kee Akers is appearing at the Goulburn Workers Club at 8pm on Friday, June 23.
