A $100,000 pot has been distributed to surrounding villages for the past two years. But this year it has been increased to $106,990 to take account of Middle Arm.
Cr Peter Walker, a resident, urged the locality’s inclusion in the round. He also recently secured an outreach meeting for Middle Arm in this year’s schedule.
The village discretionary fund is calculated on rateable assessments in each area. Each assessment is allocated $29.50. In 2017/18 the villages will receive:
- Marulan – $27,050
- Tarago – $14,395
- Windellama – $16,017
- Parkesbourne – $7021
- Bungonia – $11,269
- Towrang – $8,879
- Tallong – $15,369
- Middle Arm – $6690
Middle Arm’s allocation was based on the 237 rateable properties within the Rural Fire Service region. The Mayor and general manager will decide what Middle Arm organisation has authority to allocate the money.
Councillors also decided at their meeting on Tuesday that all funds should be spent within 18 months, rather than allowing them to accumulate.
Community organisations submit project ideas for approval before the council releases the money.
