The thought of having a car for over 50 years these days is hard to imagine, especially a car that is still in good nick, but this is the case with Barry and Joyce Bright’s Holden HR 1967 Premier station wagon. It is still going strong after 50 years and 64,000 miles.

“She’s my pride and joy,” says Barry.
Maybe it’s because the car only came out of the shed on Sundays or holidays that that it still looks so great?
This is what 81-year-old Barry Bright reckons anyway.
His Holden HR 1967 Premier Station Wagon notches up 50 years on August 20 but is still very roadworthy.
“I bought it from Geissler Motors brand new and it has been in the family for 50 years,” Barry said.
“It was a Sunday car. The only time it was out In the weather was when we were on holidays. I was working for Dick Nell at the time and he said trade in my other car (an EH Holden) and I’ll buy you a new car and pay it off out of your wages – so I did.”
Son Paul said did not learn to drive in that car because “he was not allowed to.”
“We were not even allowed to eat in it. It went in the shed all week and came out on weekends - it was his pride and joy. He bought mum a VW Beetle to take us to school in,” he said.
Paul is now the president of Goulburn Historic Classic Car club and Barry gave him the car a few years ago.
“I take it on club runs and it has won HD HR Nationals Nationals Awards for best unrestored original in 2009 and 2016,” Paul said.
“We would go to Sydney for holidays and dad would fill the car up when we arrived and park it and leave it for the week. I later asked him why we didn’t drive it around Sydney and he said we had a certain amount of money for the week and if it ran out we had a tank full of petrol to get home.”
