The snails were created for the Art and About Festival in 2014 by the Cracking Art Group collective from Italy, France and Belgium and were on a ‘regional tour.’
But in March, 95km/h winds in Goulburn felled an old elm tree in Belmore Park where the artwork was installed. The timber was cut up and removed, with little discussion about its use.
Now, Goulburn Woodworkers are crafting part of that timber into a bespoke table for the local studies collection at Goulburn Library, a report to Tuesday’s council meeting states.
