Senior Constable Timothy Thumpston, a former Mulwaree High School student, was one of two police officers to receive Valour Awards from Commissioner Fuller recognising their selfless acts of exceptional bravery.
On Saturday, May 4, 2013, Senior Constable Greenwood and Thumpston attended a home on Godwin Street, Forster, and noticed the garage of the premise was on fire. They were informed a person was inside. Senior Constable Greenwood forced down the front door and both officers entered the smoke filled home. They located a man inside and escorted him out.
Once outside, they attempted to stop the fire spreading by using a garden hose until other emergency services arrived.
The Valour Award is the highest commendation the commissioner can bestow on officers for acts of bravery.
“This award acknowledges the extraordinary courage, selflessness and professionalism displayed by each of the officers in the line of duty,” Commissioner Fuller said.
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk met up with Senior Constable Thumpston, who he recognised from years earlier.
“I remember him as a local lad,” Cr Kirk said. “He went to Mulwaree HIgh and worked at the Paragon for a time, I think.”
Goulburn receives one of the new probationary constables and one has also been assigned to Bowral.
