The 17 player Trinity squad faced a 23-strong St Edmunds’ College squad in the grand final at Viking Park.
Trinity could not have asked for a better start, with outside centre Damien Chamberlain out acing his St Eddies counterparts, to score in the first five minutes.
The next 15 minutes of the game developed into an arm wrestle with both forward packs attempting to dominate play.
Angus Regetschot, Lachlan Rosenberg and Luke McCue all made strong runs early in the game. Jack Burke, Ethan Slattery and Alex Parlett were driving into the rucks and Trinity looked to be worrying St Edmund.
Trinity’s backline led by Josh Metz looked dangerous every time they had possession. They didn’t waste any opportunity with inside centre Harry Kristan running hard, shrugging off two defenders and scoring beside the posts.
With a swing of possession in St Edmund’s favour, Trinity’s defence was put to the test, defending countless efforts from the St Edmund’s forward pack and backline. Trinity seemed to be impenetrable with several try saving tackles by Will Hearne. However, a quick shift of the ball from St Edmund’s backline saw their winger cross the line with five minutes before half time. At half time Trinity led 12-5.
The second half commenced with some good work at the scrums by Angus Temple, Harry Taylor and Lachlan Rosenberg.
Although, St Edmund’s defence improved, they were no match for the strength of Captain Jack Burke, who burst through the defence to score Trinity’s third try.
Poor discipline by Trinity invited St Edmund’s to apply pressure. Two consecutive yellow cards reduced Trinity to 13 players and St Edmund’s took advantage, scoring their second try. The try went unconverted and Trinity led 19 to 10.
Despite being outnumbered, Trinity’s determination and grit only grew. Several quick darts from the ruck by Connor Minehan sparked a drive in Trinity’s attack to score back-to-back tries. Through determination, Trinity showcased the charactistics of playing as a team, to win 36-15. Alex Parlett was named Player of the Match.
