The NSW Ultimate Mixed Championships were held at Carr Confoy Park over the weekend with 20 teams coming from Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong and Dubbo to compete in the seven a side self regulated competition. It was held on 10 fields with some games held on the southern oval.
With seven players from each team on the field at a time the object is to get the frisbee over the line at the opposite end of the field by throwing it to one of your team members. There is no offside rule and disputes, which seem to be fairly rare, are sorted on field between the teams and usually the disc is thrown again. The defending team aims to intercept the flying disc and may get up close to the thrower in order to put them off target. It is a very fast moving game and players often dive or leap up high to intercept the disc.
The game is a combination of numerous sports in nature with an emphasis on good sportsmanship and fun and has leagues in various country regions including Dubbo, Bathurst and Temora but not yet in Goulburn. The Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships will be held in Hobart, Tasmania from October 27 to 29.
