A member of the Goulburn Domestic and Family Violence committee had recently made a large purple banner which reads ‘Goulburn says NO to Domestic Violence’ in the countdown to White Ribbon Day.
This banner was sitting in the office of Mission Australia South Eastern NSW area manager Daniel Strickland when he came up with an idea to put it to better use.
So Mr Strickland put a call out for businesses, spaces and schools to display the banner on Twitter. Very quickly he was inundated with calls and messages about finding the banner a more public home.
“Each day more businesses and groups want to display it for the week, at this stage it is booked up every week until the middle of December,” he said.
Goulburn High School was one of the first to respond to the call out. Last weekend the banner was hung at the Goulburn Workers Arena during the soccer grand finals. Goulburn Police will also have the banner hung at the station soon.
“We’d love businesses to get involved. It’s another way the community can help and share their voice,” he said. “A great opportunity to have those conversations with the community.”
Mr Strickland plans to spread this idea in other regions in South Eastern NSW.
The Domestic and Family Violence committee is a group of passionate members representing key community groups and organisations.
The group organises upcoming campaigns and projects to spread awareness on family and domestic violence across the district.
Mr Strickland encourages businesses who would like to purchase or display the banner to contact him on 4824 4000.
