Thirty-four members and friends took the opportunity to visit this wonderful garden owned by Judith Basil and her husband.
On arrival we were given a short talk on the beginnings of the gardens and lavender processing; then everyone was served with scones, raspberry and lavender jam and cream.
Some members comments were they were the best scones they had ever eaten!
Judith then proceeded to show us her whole garden with commentary on each garden and the old purpose-built lavender oil extraction plant which was sitting out among the gardens.
Judith was very generous with lots of cuttings handed out along the garden tour.
Lunchtime and we were all treated to some wonderfully delicious “pot pies” made on the property and some lovely lemon meringue tarts.
We were seated in a big dining room with white tablecloths and a beautifully presented table setting and lots of memorabilia around the walls.
Judith and her helpers served us all. Judith runs cooking schools as well as working on the gardens and we would totally recommend the food and surroundings.
When leaving Crystal Brook, Judith then led us into Laggan to visit the Statue Gardens and everyone thought these were amazing as well with lots of work having been done ready for the Crookwell Garden Festival in November.
Judith then returned home and we continued into Crookwell stopping outside the Sock Factory where many members made purchases and had a quick look along the street at other shops before returning to Goulburn.
A very pleasant day was had by all with perfect weather on the day after some horrendous windy conditions in the days leading up to the trip.
Annette was thanked for the wonderful job she had again done and I would also like to thank Sue Marks for taking the photos on the day as my camera ran out of battery.
Several raffles were held on the bus on the way home with many winners to top off a great day.
Next meeting
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 24, and members are reminded to bring along an “arrangement in a mug” to this meeting. Members will decide a winner with a most popular vote.
Hopefully everyone is tending to their “cuttings” in a pot for the November meeting, which should be a lot of fun, so everyone is asked to please participate by bringing in your cuttings and you will go home with something different!
We also have our trip to the Home Show in Sydney on Friday, October 27, and Annette still has a few seats vacant if anyone would like to come along on that trip.
