The presentation was held at the Goulburn Soldiers Club which is the major sponsor of the association and its players for the second year of their three year arrangement.
Representative players, parents, coaches, managers and members of the GDJCA attend and were looking forward to the season getting underway for both local cricket and the representative games.
This season GDJCA is fielding a under 12, under 14, under 16 representative teams and an under 15 girls’ T20 side.
President Rob Jolliffe gave an endearing speech congratulating the players who had been selected for the representative teams and each was presented with their baggy maroon cap.
The season commenced on Saturday, October 14 with under 12s, 14s and 16s playing their first games.
Jolliffe, welcomed the boys and girls playing representative cricket this season, as well as their parents, coaches, managers and members of the GDJCA Committee.
“We hold this event each year because it’s important to acknowledge all of our great cricket players from across the age divisions,” Jolliffe said. “By being here tonight, you have all acknowledged your commitment to your team. I am sure I will witness and hear about many achievements out on the cricket field but always remember that we play in the spirit of cricket, by doing your best and competing with sportsmanship and fair play.
“I congratulate the boys and girls for your selection in your representative team. All I ask from you is that you do your very best at both training and at the game and the results will follow.
“I would like to offer my special praise to the parents that are your coaches, managers and scorers for their commitment to your team. To the parents that give up their Sunday’s to get you to the game and to those parents that offer to take other kids when their parent’s can’t make it, I give you my sincere appreciation.”
Jolliffe said because of the support received from sponsors – including Goulburn Soldiers Club, First National Real Estate, Coopers Earthmoving and Craig’s Furniture One – GDJCA was able to keep the representative fees to a minimum.
Jolliffe finished his address with a quote from current Australian cricket captain, Steve Smith. “He said: ‘The more balls I hit, the fitter I get, the better I will play. Make life hard for the bowlers by minimising my weaknesses.’
Junior batsman Abdul Raheem has scored over 200 runs across three games so far this season and has retired not out in each.
