Pathways to Hope promotes mental well being and suicide prevention. The event runs from 10am to 2pm.
This this year’s mental health month theme is ‘Share the Journey’ and the event is encouraging community members to share their journey on the day with family, friends and even pets.
“It’s a great excuse to bring your dog down to the park and soak up a great atmosphere while gaining information that could assist you or someone you know,” Flourish Australia Mental Health Worker Sian Mason said.
“The event will involve an interactive and entertaining walk around Belmore Park, enabling community members to obtain advice on mental health.
“There will be fun activities and much entertainment, including local choirs, temporary tattoos, Danny D Horse therapy, a jumping castle and more.”
One in four people in Australia will experience a mental health issue at some stage in their lives.
Family members and friends may not know how to identify mental health signs or where to go to get help.
“Many people experiencing mental health issues suffer in silence, which can lead to a downward well being spiral and even suicide,” Ms Mason said.
“By having mental health issues and suicide awareness open for discussion in a community environment, we aim to reduce stigma and open up ‘Pathways to Hope’ for people in need.”
People with dogs are asked to have them on a leash.
Representatives from the NDIS, Flourish Australia, Goulburn & District Suicide Prevention Network, Ability Links, One Door Mental Health, The Personnel Group, Headspace Goulburn, STARTS and Goulburn Mulwaree Youth Council will be there.
