For the Past three years Byron Hollingworth Dessent has attended Sydney’s elite Trinity Grammar School. He is in the last stages of his Higher School Certificate exams and looking forward to the next step in his sporting and life journey.

“It’s been hard being away from home but really, Trinity Grammar was the perfect place to continue my sport at an elite level, whilst getting a good balance along with completing my studies; everything was all in the one place,” Hollingworth Dessent said.
“I’ve had a very busy schedule trying to complete my studies and training at an elite level for both rugby and track. I’ve just completed my end of year sporting commitments and was awarded with a haul of medals and awards including, Australian Representative award, Mark Crossingham Trophy Best Back 1st XV Rugby, OTU trophy best all round athlete and The Wherrett Cup for Track and Field.
“It has been a big year. In September I got to represent Australia at the Oceania Athletics Championships in the 100m with Athletics Australia and returned with a silver and bronze.
“It was a proud moment running for my country in the green and gold. I did really well considering it was off season and I was right in the middle of rugby season, where I carry at least 20kg more than the other competitors.
“I train for track to keep my speed for rugby, which has paid off.”
Hollingworth Dessent has just been awarded the prestigious George Gregan scholarship. This will see him with the ACT Brumbies for at least three years and hopefully longer, whilst attending the University of Canberra. He has been selected from the u20s pathway to be in the Brumbies Academy, which is another step closer to his rugby dream.
“Being 17, I’m probably the youngest in the academy, but I know I’ll thrive being in that environment. Training in there with those guys it’s a dream come true.
“All my hard work has finally paid off. I played as a junior with the Brumbies and I went through the ranks and the pathways head coach, Russell Ingram had been keeping an eye on my development and progress.
“I am so wrapped to not only be coming home to Goulburn, but being back where it all started for me.
“I couldn’t be happier. I enjoyed my junior years at Brumbies, they are like family. It’s a great culture at Brumbies and I know I’m in good hands.”
