We refer to the well-considered thoughtful Uluru Statement generated by our indigenous brothers and sisters, and congratulate them on their efforts.
It is a sad state of affairs that in 2017, any government can ignore the voice of our first Australians in such an off handed way as citing feedback from the ‘communities’ whilst ignoring the majority of the said same.
It truly is a kick in the guts to Indigenous Australians and the federal Liberal Nationals government should be ashamed of itself.
The wider non-indigenous community is streets ahead of the Liberal Nationals in facing reality by wanting our indigenous peoples to be constitutionally recognised, have a treaty put in place and to move logically towards a truth and reconciliation council.
It is sickening that issues such as the NBN, marriage equality and multiculturalism overshadow the very reasonable and responsible recognition of Indigenous Australia.
We must do better as it is our collective shame the government allows this poverty and injustice to continue.
