A major highlight will be the $150,000 JCF Contracting Goulburn Cup.
This is the first year that the Goulburn Cup has been worth $150,000.
Racing NSW recently announced the additional $50,000 in prize money for this year and beyond.
The prize money elevates the status of the race from not just “another country cup” to a genuine racing option for city, provincial, country trainers and their gallopers.
Goulburn District Race Club chief executive Robyn Fife says the prize money increase has been a real boost for the club and its primary audience, trainers and owners.
“The prize money increase is further recognition for the Goulburn District Race Club by Racing NSW,” Ms Fife said.
“The Goulburn Cup is a well-established feature race in NSW and has attracted horses from both intra and interstate in previous years.
“This year is the 133rd running of the race.
“The added prize money allows us to further develop the ‘major community event’ mindset within racing and the Goulburn community about our feature day.”
Ms Fife said the Goulburn Cup had developed a reputation in recent times as a race for gallopers on the way up.
“Horses who have performed well in the race in the past like Any Day Will Do, Moral Victory and last year’s winner Circular have then gone on to post very competitive results in elite races shortly after their Goulburn Cup runs,” she said.
For the those more inclined to a clothes horse, Heat 4 of the South-East Racing Association’s Fashions on the Field Contest will feature. With plenty of hospitality options for racegoers and live entertainment all day, the gates open at noon for the first race at 1pm.
