Reneged is owned by Prime Thoroughbreds with syndicate members, brothers Ozzie and Greg Symonds, travelling from Perth to watch their contender in action.

From the west of the country to the east, the Symonds will chalk up plenty of kilometres just to be on track, according to Robyn Hartney, who is the racing manager for Reneged’s trainer John Thompson.

“They have watched him race a few times in Brisbane, but this is another long trip for them to see him go around in the Goulburn Cup,” Hartney said.

“Reneged is a three quarter brother to Buffering and has been a nice horse for his owners.”

Reneged is having his third start back from a spell over 1600 metres which is his ideal distance having won four of his eight attempts.

The galloper has won four of his 17 starts, is ideally drawn in barrier three and drops down to 54 kilograms after carrying six kilograms more last start when second at Hawkesbury.

Hartney said the stable expects Reneged to be competitive with a lot in his favour.

“The track is a soft 5 and if it stays like that or there is further rain it will be better for him,” she said.

“The horse has been set for this race and is a good chance on the limit weight.”

Reneged cost himself possible victory last time by laying inwards when making a run out wide.

The five-year-old closed powerfully in a sure sign he is ready to go one better in the $150,000 main event.

The gelding rises a lot in class and faces a strong line-up that includes horses from some of Sydney’s strongest stables.

The country sector has small representation in a race that could be dominated by the higher weighted horses.

Top weight Fabrizio and Dark Eyes will represented Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott who finished second in the Goulburn Cup last year with Sweet Redemption.

O’Reilly’s Revenge, who ran third last year, is back again and perfectly placed to gain an ideal run from gate one.
