Over 20 local artists will perform on Saturday at the Goulburn Club from 2pm to midnight for a jam packed fundraiser event.
Organiser and musician Kial Malone met Mr McColl about ten years ago when he was in high school.
Mr McColl was a sound technician for Mr Malone’s band and regularly attended their shows.
“He is a humble dude who is extremely passionate about the local music scene and regularly puts on shows at the Goulburn Club to give local artists a chance to share their original music,” he said.
“If it weren’t for him there wouldn’t be much of a DIY music scene in Goulburn, we’d still be playing our songs to our mums.”
Over the Christmas break, Mr McColl was admitted to Goulburn Base Hospital and may require surgery that is expected to cost up to $20,000.
He is often found volunteering at Angels for the Forgotten or as a sound technician around town.
“I spoke with Ron at The Goulburn Club and put the word out to a bunch of artists who Marky has helped out in the past. The response I got was bloody phenomenal, everyone was more than happy to help out and be involved in some way,” Mr Malone said.
“My goal was to cram as many acts onto the bill as possible, so everyone can thank Marky in their own way and he can have a ripper of a time. He has done wonders for our town and all of us personally, so it’s time we gave the legend something back.”
A Go Fund Me account has also been created, with over $5,000 raised in three weeks.
“He’s always at the Angel’s for the Forgotten, working hard and helping people out,” fellow board member Jason Shepherd said.
“He’s a good bloke and Goulburn would be missing out if he wasn’t around.”
Tickets are $10 each. The day will include a raffle and auction. All money raised will go to Mark McColl.
