A WEDDING
A wedding of local interest took place on November 11 in the Cathedral of St Peter and Paul. Amelia (Millie) Marmont married Brad Hewitt. The reception was held at “Kelburn”. The couple have made their home at their property on Thornford Road.

INTERNATIONAL VISITORS
On Sunday, Warwick Bisset, from “Rocklily”, introduced Malo Francett, from Dinard, a small city in France. Malo had just arrived after some weeks in Taiwan, while Florian Vernee and Esaline Turin, both from La Sarraz, a small village in Switzerland are looking forward to spending time in New Zealand after three months in Australia.
The group were very complimentary about the best hamburger they tasted in Taralga. They also said good things about the banana bread! They were fascinated with the variety of the display in the Historical Society Complex.
HARD WORKERS!
The showground was a hive of activity over the weekend as seating was carried to the ground, the arena was ploughed, the sheds were cleaned and yards erected for the dog trials in preparation for the Campdraft over the Australia Day weekend.
The Australia Day Ambassador, Gordon Bray, will present the Citizen of the Year Award as well as the Event of the Year on Friday.
The cattle dog and yard dog trials are also run on Friday and Saturday. The children are also catered for with kids’ novelty events.
The Gymkhana begins the program on Saturday followed by the Junior Rodeo. Then popular singer, musician, Jamie Agius entertains from 8pm until midnight.
The Rodeo begins on Sunday, 28th at 8am. It is expected to finish about 4pm.
You will have fresh hot food, cold or hot drinks and lots of stalls to browse around.
EARLY SETTLERS
There are many family trees housed in the archives of the Historical Society. One of these is the family of Michael Durack. The name is no longer around but descendants still live in the district. Michael (1808-1853) came to Australia in 1855. He married Bridget Dillon.
The couple had eight children. Mary (1833-1900), Patrick (1834-1898), Margaret (1837-1864), Bridget (1839-1910), Sarah (1841-1914), Anne (1845-1874), Michael (1846-1895) ( who married Miss McInnes, their daughter Christina married Les Cameron. Les and Christina were the parents of Josephine Marmont, Fergine Croker and Leslie Croker), Jerry (1855-1901) (who married Miss Neal). Patrick married a Miss Costello and fathered eight children: Mary, Michael, John, Jeramiah, Patrick, Mary, Bridget and Jeramiah.
