It was just one of about 20 jobs that the Goulburn SES was called out to as a result of a massive storm that swept through Goulburn, depositing up to 70mm in 45 minutes on the city.
Goulburn RFS Controller Robert Bell said the Goulburn SES Unit, with assistance from the Crookwell and Collector Units, responded to 20 calls for assistance on Saturday afternoon and did not finish responding until about 9pm that night.
He said Police Rescue, Goulburn Police and the Goulburn SES Unit rescued a driver from flood waters at Cartroad Ck near Windellama.
“We responded along with NSW Police Rescue to a driver being caught in flood waters at Cartoad Ck, Windellama,” Mr Bell said.
“Police Rescue were able to get the driver to safety,” Mr Bell said
“But I couldn't believe that another car was attempting to cross, while the other car was still stuck in the middle of the creek.
“We ensured this driver did not cross, but the message needs to go out - do not enter flooded roads. There is no knowing what is being washed down.
“It not only puts your life at risk, but also the emergency services personnel who have to get you out.”
The male driver was rescued from his vehicle after it became stranded in flood water on Oallen Ford Road.
Mr Bell said about half of the SES call outs related to flood damage, requiring sandbagging and other mopping up assistance, while the other half were responding to roof damage and tree damage.
The storm also caused road closures at Finlay Rd and a northbound lane of Hume St near Lansdowne St.
The railway underpass on Park Rd to Eastgrove was also closed due to flooding.
