Apart from all of the new and proposed housing estates off the Marys Mount Road, any existing land near the CBD seemed to be getting snapped up too.
The new plans for the 41-townhouse development at Fenwick Crescent are an example of this.
This land has been sitting vacant for a long time as the former clubhouse gets continually vandalised.
Of course it is still up for council approval, but such an idea for this area seems long overdue.
Developer Rodney Thompson, who also developed the cCaltex Service Station and Red Rooster site near the Big Merino, says it is “all positive” for Goulburn.
“The market is going well here. Capital growth has been great. There is a lot of transient traffic here between Canberra and Sydney,” he said.
“This development could really help to reinvigorate this end of town.”
But as Mr Thompson points out, people are seeking a type of ‘middle ground’ between houses and single bedroom units.
There is also a push for more housing close to the city’s CBD.
This type of housing suits those who are seeking less maintenance and who want closer proximity to the main street and services.
This push is also evidenced by the redevelopment of the former Marian College in Clinton St into units, for which demolition is well advanced.
As well as this, the construction of motel units of the former St Patrick’s Primary School site is also well underway.
With the approval of the Performing Arts Centre, continuous new housing developments and the further establishment of university presences as well as a new bus service to Canberra – Goulburn seems poised to finally catch up to other regional cities in NSW.
What’s going on with Mother Nature?
Just what is going on with Mother Nature at the moment? One minute it resembles hell – with 38 degrees heat and fires raging everywhere – the next we cop 70mm of rain in 45 minutes! The storm that passed through the city on Saturday gave some welcome relief to fire fighters, but also caused a few problems of its own.
