The Goulburn Chamber of Commerce is busy preparing for three opportunities in coming months for the business community of the Goulburn district to contribute significantly to shaping the future of our city – Australia’s first inland city – which celebrates its 155th birthday in March.

The first event is the chamber meeting to be held on Wednesday, February 14 at Workspace 2580, 56 Clinton Street, Goulburn commencing at 7.30am. Mr Paul Watson, managing director of Southern Infrastructure, will address Chamber members and their guests on the proposed private consortium plan to build a second prison on Goulburn’s south-eastern outskirts. According to the consortium, up to 2000 permanent jobs for Goulburn and district could be generated. The meeting will enable members of the Goulburn and district business community to obtain a much better understanding of the proposal. This will then enable the chamber to contribute to further community discussion on the proposal.
The second opportunity is a special meeting being convened by Goulburn Mulwaree Council for chamber members at which Council’s CBD Master Plan will be reviewed. The meeting is to be held at the Grace Millsom Centre on Wednesday, February 21 commencing at 5.30pm. Members were introduced to the Master Plan at the meeting of the chamber held just prior to Christmas by the mayor and council’s general manager. The coming meeting will enable members to provide feedback to Councillors and senior Council staff on the detail of the Master Plan.
The third opportunity enables the business community to encourage business talent and success in local businesses. Once again, following on from the growing success of the Excellence in Business Awards, the chamber will be organising these in 2018, culminating in the Gala Dinner. The formal announcement of the awards will be made shortly, but as in recent years the Gala Dinner will be held early in the second half of the year.
