A bi-annual event, in 2018 the GDEF is will be staging a ‘Long Lunch’ in the historic ‘Cardross’ Woolshed at Yarra, near Goulburn.
The Long Lunch will raise funds exclusively for local school leavers who are grant recipients of the GDEF.
Each year GDEF awards grants or scholarships to deserving local youth to help them achieve their tertiary dreams.
The students it supports have demonstrated the initiative, ability and drive to succeed in their tertiary studies.
Some of its grant recipients have gone on to achieving great things, and many say they feel they have their community behind them as a result of receiving their grant.
All of them benefit from the grants awarded to help with the purchase of textbooks, laptops or to help pay course fees.
The Long Lunch will feature three sumptuous courses by an acclaimed local caterer, an art auction of selected local works, music by the Goulburn Conservatorium and gift bags of locally sourced produce.
GDEF chairman Guy Milson said: “The GDEF is especially excited to have Richard Glover, acclaimed journalist, radio personality and author as our special guest speaker.
“Richard is a renowned raconteur, a great personality and a greatly admired journalist.
“He will no doubt regale the crowd with a few good stories and with his wit.
“It will be a great afternoon, and everyone who comes will know they are contributing in a small way to the future of our local kids which is a great thing for our community.”
GDEF encourages community members to join them for a great day out of entertainment, wonderful food and wine, storytelling and local art appreciation: all for a very good cause!
