At about 12.45pm on February 20, a male inmate from High Risk Management was escorted by four officers to make a phone call.
When travelling back to the cell, the 28-year-old inmate led an unprovoked attack against the officers.
One officer was scratched in the face, another was punched and the third sustained a broken hand.
Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) Commissioner Peter Severin praised the four officers who were able to “swiftly” deescalate the situation.
The inmate has now been placed in segregation and CSNSW and NSW Police are investigating with charges likely to result.
“This is absolutely disgusting behaviour by this particular offender, who has assaulted and abused staff without any provocation or warning,” Mr Severin said.
“It also demonstrates why our most dangerous and difficult offenders need to be housed in Supermax, our most secure facility. We will ensure this offender is charged to the full extent of the law.”
