Drifters came out strongly in the first half catching Fireflys off guard a little with two early goals by Ben Staines after some strong attacking teamwork. Flys had their chances but couldn’t penetrate the defence. Drifters were up 3 – 0 at half time.
In the second half Drifters found themselves on the defence as the Flys pushed hard to get into a scoring position. Their first goal came early in the half. Then with 13 minutes left a penalty corner went their way and the equaliser right on full time. In golden point time a down the middle run from their own half by Aaron Kershaw to beat the keeper, slammed home the final nail. 4 – 3 to Firerflys
The women’s first grade game was a hard fought end to end contest with Ajax and Fireflys locked one goal each at half time. With inside six minutes left Ajax scores off a penalty corner and hung on for a 2 – 1 victory.
