TULLY Park continued their good start to the season with as they sauntered to an 83-run victory over Bowral at Kenmore on Saturday. Tully captain Mik Webber won the toss and elected to bat, however but for some middle order heroics the decision could have proved costly.
The home side were quickly in trouble with openers Earl and Rowlings back in the sheds at 2/7.
Webber started a recovery job with Jock Cartwright and the two looked solid until Cam Belshaw got one through Webber and bowled him for a solid 31. Tully had slipped to be 5/45 after as Peter Bullock and Tim
King both went cheaply.
Cartwright was joined by Oliver Sharwood and the pair set about a magnificent recovery mission. A feature of both players was their driving which was crisp and precise. Cartwright also played a superb pull for six over mid wicket as his innings blossomed.
So did the Tully run rate with the pair taking the total to 6/164 when Sharwood was caught at slip for a top class 59. Ben Haynes then joined Cartwright and the pair launched into the Bowral bowling with Haynes scoring a quick fire 22, with Cartwright eventually out for 84 from 80 balls in a brilliantly constructed effort.
Tully lost their last wickets chasing quick runs to be all out for 208. Bowral commenced the run chase slowly with Liam Hammond and Stewart McPherson getting the total to 1/25 when Mik Webber bowled Hammond for 7.
Webber struck again shortly afterwards when he bowled McPherson for 23. Smith then dismissed Dean Roxborugh, caught in slips for eight, and Bowral never recovered from 3/42.
Cameron Belshaw batted patiently for his 24 to keep the Tully bowling at bay but wickets continued to fall at the other end, so when Belshaw was dismissed by Haynes Bowral had slumped to 6/83 and could only manage 125.
Webber (3/26) and Smith (1/14) set the platform for Ben Haynes (3/28), Tom Skelly (3/26) and Brad Mitchell (1/14) to again work through the opposition.
Tully’s bowling has been instrumental in their strong start to the season.
