Local members of the NSW Police Force, State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Service gathered at the Red Cross Blood Service Blood Bank in Auburn Street on Thursday.
“I think it goes without saying - people need blood,” Sergeant Geoff Cook said.
“We go to accidents and see a lot of people who need it.”
Two of the Police officers were regular donors and had encouraged their work mates to come along. As a first timer, Mr Cook said that he had thought about donating blood before but had never got around to it.
“I’ve walked past before and thought ‘gee I must do that’,” he said. All of the Police officers were glad that they were donating.
“We’re happy to be here,” Mr Cook said, speaking for the team.
Inspector Sheehan also said that it would be great to get the next intake of NSW Police College Students on board.
“I’m O negative and it’s one of the rarer ones so I just like to do my bit,” SES business manager Joanne Humphries said.
“It would be great if more people gave up their time to donate blood.”
Red Cross Blood Service Goulburn’s community relations officer Linus Nesbitt said that it was great that the emergency services were taking their time to give blood.
“It’s important to give blood because one in three people need blood in their lives but only one in about 30 donate,” she said.
“This is a NSW campaign where the tallies go towards knowing the services are in there supporting us.”
