Open Symposium and art exhibition on the issue of Coal Seam Gas in the Goulburn region.
The impetus for this exhibition came from recent and much publicised developments over proposed Coal Seam Gas (CSG) mining in the nearby Southern Highlands and an art auction fundraiser for the Southern Highlands Coal Action Group (SHCAG) in late 2012. GRAG has been loaned one of these works and inspired by the generosity of the artists' initial action, has invited local and regional established artists to respond to the possibility of CSG mining being allowed in our region.
What might happen to our landscape, water table and the general environment, not only in our region, but all over Australia? Each artist is responding in different mediums, genres and subject matter according to the way in which they interpret this issue. The artists include George Gittoes, Pamela Griffith, Clare Milledge, JD Reforma and well-known regional artists, Jenny Bell, Alison Clouston and Boyd, Margarita Georgiadis, Jasper Knight, Jon Lewis, Lucinda McDonald, Max Miller and Louise Owen.
The exhibition will open on Saturday, 23 November at 2pm and be followed by a symposium with guest speakers representing both sides of the debate, including Kirsty Ruddock, formerly principal solicitor with the NSW Environmental Defender's Office and currently with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. All welcome to this free event at the gallery.
Venue: Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, Bourke St
Time: 2pm to 5pm
