He’s the first Labor man out of the blocks in the pre-selection race, due to be finalised by the end of July.
The councillor of almost two years says he’s tired of Goulburn (the city and electorate) being “forgotten.”
“I’ve had that feeling when I ran for Hume in 2010 but after the deals between the Nationals and the Liberals at both state and federal level in this region, it’s caused a lot of anger in me…They took the electorate for mugs.
“I think it’s time someone stood up and made it a contest… I think I can contribute, raise a voice and speak up for the electorate.”
The former school teacher, now a visitor services officer at Canberra’s Parliament House, will campaign on improved health, education and transport services.
Cr Saville was not happy with sitting Liberal MP Pru Goward’s performance, saying job losses had affected Goulburn.
“I’m not satisfied with the level of attention paid and it’s not good enough to pop up everywhere the year before an election and expect to get elected,” he said.
But he also criticised the Labor Party for “not paying enough attention” to rural and regional NSW, which he pledged to speak up for if pre-selected. Cr Saville said he was prepared for the demands of campaigning, vowing it would not interfere with his Council or paid work.
“And I won’t bring it into the Council Chamber either,” he said.
Pre-selection is expected to close in late June. Senator Ursula Stephens is also considering nominating.
