Eight teams competed in the inaugural tournament which saw each team play a minimum of four modified games each with 12 minute halves.
Group A consisted of Marulan, Stags 97, Crookwell and a mixed squad known as the Barbarians.
Group B had Stags Prems, Workers, AC Stags and Soldiers.
Stags Prems captain Aaron Swanson was impressed with his players and thought the day went well overall.
“For a new team it’s been unreal and everyone gelled really well,” he said.
“It’s like we’ve been playing together for years. I’m really happy with the result and am looking forward to the season now. A good pre-season always helps with the season, and I hope we can build on that from these matches today. If we can get a few wins early, we can then roll on for a big season.”
His impressions of the whole tournament were positive.
“It was a phenomenal day and really well organised, I thought,” Swanson said.
“Obviously ‘Chuck’ (Stags secretary Craig Norris) and Tony Dunn did a lot for it. I think everyone had a good time and hopefully we’ll all go down the pub and have a few to celebrate tonight!”
One of the tournament organizers Tony Dunn said that the day was a success.
“Overall with the six teams the attendance was good and it was all played in great spirits,” he said.
“Everyone had a really good day. Stags Premier League are going to be a good side in that finals premier league, so it’s good to see them get off to a good start and there will be big things in store for them this year I think.”
Stags Premier League is in for a big few weeks ahead.
“The Highlands competition will kick off, and we’ve had a few rain games,” Dunn said.
“The boys will be out on Saturday trying to win in first grade and second grade kicks back off again on the weekend as well, so hopefully the two sides go alright.”
The games will be played both at Cookbundoon and out at Crookwell.
