THE Dirty Reds have demolished the Yass Rams 88-7 in what was Boyd Newby’s 100th game as first grade captain.

The final score was a record winning margin over the Yass side and it firmly plants the Reds as competition leaders going into the second half of the season.
Brad Clements was instrumental in the victory and equalled the club record of a five try haul in a single match.
Man of the moment, Newby said he was “humbled and “flattered” to captain such a successful game on his milestone match.
He mentions the support, the phone calls, and the messages of well wishers that contributed to an unforgettable experience.
That experience was made better with a thumping 88-7 win over arch-nemesis the Yass Rams on Saturday.
“It was truly humbling and flattering,” Newby told the Post.
“I tried to treat it like any other game but it was a bit odd leading into it. I couldn’t help but reflect a little bit before the game.”
Among those who came to see the club stalwart celebrate his captain’s ton was his partner Catherine, son Harrison and mother Carolyn.
“It’s satisfaction for Boyd,” senior coach Darren Solomons said.
“He works hard and is a good leader. And what he lacks in, he makes up for in his composure and leadership. He leads by example.”
While Solomons was happy to see his captain enjoy the moment, he too was happy with the well executed win over Yass away from home.
Yass were on the back foot the entire game, as Goulburn piled on 14 tries to one. “You can only play what they put out in front of you and we happened to dismantle what they put out in front of us on the weekend,” Solomons said.
“Our forwards just powered through the middle so they were continually on the back foot. Because of this three of our first five tries were through rolling mauls” Solomons pointed out Stan Williams, Jack Brimms, David Hook and Jayden Hunt, who commuted from Sydney, as the driving force that kept Yass at bay.
However it was second rower Brad Clements who proved the game’s show stopper.
The youngster equalled the club record of five tries in one game, achieving the same feat Rob Skeekey once produced.
“We’ve been working on following and trailing the player at training,” Solomons said. “Brad’s there and he’s executing what we’ve been working on and supporting the play.”
Second grade also produced a 26-7 win over Yass reserve grade.
Luke Shaw and Nick Tabner both scored two tries each.
