Choosing tableware has never before thrown up so many options. But choosing the right table setting comes down to purpose. What will you use it for - bone china with delicate, soft floral prints is more suited to traditional afternoon teas and special occasions; while sturdy porcelain in crisp, plain designs suits everyday tableware and more informal settings.
White remains the most popular choice, as it can be accessorised with pops of colour in cups or platters and remains an undated classic. Knowing what to bring to the table will make entertaining outdoors a breeze, says Villeroy & Boch’s MaryAnne Fesq. “Creating the perfect table setting is just one way to enjoy the warm weather as it makes the outdoor space look and feel special,” MaryAnne says.
Getting the right balance in the size and number of pieces used makes it possible to mix and match florals with graphics and block colours, she says. Colour is perfect for outdoor entertaining, she adds.
Here’s MaryAnne’s tips for hosting a feast for the eyes and the taste buds:
- Dress the table with bright pops of colour that highlight the fresh produce of the season. Sea blues make the perfect backdrop for seafoods while reds and greens make cherries, tomatoes and salads even more inviting.
- Keep it interesting by experimenting with different colours and patterns for an ever-changing table. Our Lina tableware combines floral, graphic and block colour pieces for a fun and informal setting. Complement the tableware or add a subtle touch of colour with cutlery available in a range of playful shades.
- With such a vast range of platters and serving boards on offer, entertaining has never been easier. A good option is to have a mix of grazing plates that allow guests to easily help themselves. The earthiness of the Artesano Original is suited to barbecued fare, rustic pizzas and antipasti that can be shared.
- Coloured glassware is another way you can add visual interest to a setting, casting a translucent shimmer across the table. Bowls, tumblers and chargers can add a fresh burst of colour in blues, greens and neutrals; ready to serve drinks, desserts and more.
- Complete the look with clusters of fresh blooms, our new Verso glass vase collection comes in vibrant colours for a beautiful sculptural display.
