That’s why the recently graduated Mulwaree High School Vice-Captain was nominated for the 2015 Young Citizen of the Year award, and, the reason why she won.
It’s the second year in a row a Mulwaree High School student has been given the prestigious award, with Eloise Matthews accepting 2014 honours.
Taylah said to be given the award was a humbling experience.
“I hoped that I was in with a chance but the other two were very, very good nominees and definitely deserve it as well,” she said following the presentation.
She admitted she knew she was nominated by her Principal Martin Purcell.
Her nomination read that she had been an integral part of the Be Seen, Be Heard youth crew as well as actively involved in fundraising events such as the Relay for Life and the Girls Night In.
Taylah has also volunteered to support the ‘Black Dog Institute Day in the Park’ and was selected as one of 20 students from across NSW to attend the UBS Young Women’s Conference at Sydney University.
“Being a part of the youth crew really helped a lot I think,” she said.
“We are currently organising our volunteer group to volunteer in a school in Cambodia so that’s what all my energy will go to now and then anything else after that we’ll see what happens.”
