Federal Member for Eden- Monaro, Dr Peter Hendy, has welcomed the approval of a large 20 Million Trees Project in the Bega Valley.
“The project will improve biodiversity on four dairy farms in the Bega and Tuross River valleys,” Dr Peter Hendy said.
“This project involves landholders across multiple properties in the region and will provide benefits for locally significant vegetation communities.
“The 20 Million Trees Programme was a key election commitment and is a vital part of the Government’s National Landcare Programme.
“The Coalition Government is investing $50 million over the next four years to re-establish Australia’s green corridors and urban forests through the programme.”
It is part of the Federal Government’s total investment in natural resource management which amounts to over $2 billion over the next four years.
“The 20 Million Trees projects can be carried out in either urban or regional Australia, on public and private land, where there will be a community and environmental benefit to Eden-Monaro,” Dr Hendy said.
“Funding can be used to reestablish native vegetation, and create greener spaces to improve the liveability of local communities while increasing and improving habitat to support our threatened species.
