UPDATE 5.30PM MONDAY: Water bombing aircraft from Goulburn and Orange have been called off the Rotherwood fire.
Southern Tablelands RFS zone operations manager Peter Alley said the same number of ground personnel would remain on site but fresh crews would arrive in the next few hours to do the night shift.
The blaze's status is unchanged, with a timber area still proving problematic.
A tractor moving hay bales was believed to have started the fire, about 8-10km east of Tarago.
No buildings or other property have been lost but a total 237 hectares has been burnt.
RFS units will remain onsite tomorrow, undertaking patrols.
UPDATE 3.20PM: The bulk of the fire area is now contained and the fireground mostly blackened out, however a patch of green timber in the north eastern corner remains problematic. That corner and the northern flank are the focus of current firefighting efforts at the Rotherwood fire.
NSW RFS community liaison officer Peter Diyce advises that there are now 16 units battling the fire with between 45 and 50 crew members on site.
The wind has shifted direction in the last hour and is now a north westerly although it appears to have died down in strength.
UPDATE 2.26PM: RFS community liaison officer Peter Diyce stated that the fire has now burnt an estimated 118 hectares, but has been reclassified from "Out of Control" to "Being controlled.".
Mr Diyce said the fire started in open grassland and spread into a 5-10 acre area of dense woodland.
A task force from Lake George, Palerang Shire and from the Goulburn Mulwaree area are heading to the Rotherwood fire to assist the crews on site.
No buildings or structures appear to be under threat at this stage.
UPDATE 2.00PM: Two aircraft are now joined in battling the Rotherwood fire at Tarago.
The fire has reached a patch of timber in the north east corner of the fireground and the aircraft have been tasked with water-bombing that spot as a priority.
UPDATE: 1.24PM: A fire burning at Lumley Rd, Tarago has so far burnt out 45 hectares.
While the fire, designated the "Rotherwood fire," is still classified as "Out of Control" by the NSW RFS, the alert level is "Advice", meaning there is no immediate danger to property or life.
Twelve units are currently on scene from Tarago, Windellama, Gundary, Currawang, Taylor's Creek, Bungonia and Goulburn Mulwaree Support brigades, consisting of around 30 personnel. One aircraft is already on scene with another requested and expected shortly.
RFS community liaison officer Peter Diyce stated that the fire is burning in a north easterly direction, after initially heading due east.
The firefighters are trying to stop the fire before it reaches bush and dense timber.
The township of Tarago is not currently in any danger.
