Dr Hendy announced the commitment during a visit to the Palerang RFS headquarters in Queanbeyan.
“This new funding builds on the Turnbull Liberal Team’s investment in better mobile phone coverage to help better manage emergencies,” Dr Hendy said.
“These weather stations will better prepare our community and local fire brigades to adapt to real time, local weather information, helping their decision making when responding to emergencies.
The stations will read and measure wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, humidity and temperature and then relay that information in real time to a website available to local brigades and the community.
I’ve been working with our local RFS brigades and they’ve made it clear that we need better mobile phone coverage and modern communications to better respond to fire events.”
The commitment builds upon 13 new mobile phone towers in Eden-Monaro delivered by the Turnbull Liberal Team and the four new towers announced last week.
“This new $20,000 commitment for RFS weather stations will relay information with 4G technology and be accessible to brigades and the community in real time, and it demonstrates my commitment to delivering modern communications on the ground in Eden-Monaro,” Dr Hendy said.
“I will continue working with our local community to deliver better mobile phone coverage.
Locals can help support this fight by signing my petition for better mobile phone coverage, and together we can continue to build on this historic investment.
Only the Turnbull Coalition Team has a plan for a strong new economy, carefully structured to provide jobs and growth and a secure future for local families.”
