SES controller at Collector Gary Poile said they started getting calls from about 6pm on Friday night.
“About 30mm of rain fell in a very short time and it created widespread flooding, especially in the Upper Lachlan Shire,” Mr Poile said.
“We had to close four roads due to flooding, including the Collector to Gunning Rd, the Gurrundah Rd, the Breadalbane to Collector Rd and a road in the Bevendale area, near Dalton.
“The RTA assisted with flooding on the Federal Highway, closing one lane of the road at several points near the ‘poplar straight’ at Wollogorang.
“There was a tree down on the Hume Highway near Breadalbane and while we were standing there under the light of the full moon, you would have thought you were near the ocean - there was so much water about on the Breadalbane Plains.”
He said some houses near Collector were isolated overnight on Friday, and a family was evacuated early on Saturday morning.
“Livestock was also stranded in some places,” he said.
Mr Polie said campers were also stranded near Wombeyan caves overnight on the Mares Forest Rd because a number of large trees had fallen over the road.
Meanwhile in Goulburn, the Mulwaree Ponds flooded on Blackshaw Rd near the Goulburn, causes cancellation of golf for the day and a large tree fell onto Range Road.
Southern Tablelands SES controller Robert Bell said Goulburn crews attended 14 jobs in a 24 hour period They were mostly to trees or large branches down or cover portions of roofs damaged by the high winds.
"There were a lot of trees or branches down all over the place," Mr Bell said.
"Floodwaters also cut access to Eastgrove via Lower Sterne St at the May St low level crossing."
There was also water across Brisbane Grove Road, the main alternative route to the Windellama Road, with the Lansdowne bridge closed due to its deteriorated condition.
