About a year ago, Monty the galah fell out of his nest and needed a home, while 12-year-old Jack Russell Maggie need a friend in her old age.
At first, owner Leonie White wasn’t sure if the pair would get along. Maggie is mellow and calm, while Monty is all feathers and energy. But they complement each other perfectly, and spend their days going on adventures together in Ms White’s large backyard.
“Every morning Maggie takes him on a lap of the yard,” Ms White said, laughing.
“But sometimes she forgets Monty is with her and comes back without him. I tell her ‘you took Monty out there, so you have to go back and find him’.”
One time a cat wandered into the garden and scared Monty, but Maggie was quick to defend him, chasing the cat away. While the pair are close as can be, Monty loves to prank his furry friend – he’s learnt to say “sit down Maggie” in a very human voice.
